It sounds like you meaby have got a virus. You can try to boot from the Dell image DVD, and see if it locates the harddrive.

A reinstall of the OS should solve the problem.

So I was casually browsing the internet, suddenly it closes down, all my desktop icons disappear, and an error message pops up on my screen. I went on the start menu and all my programs had gone. I figured my laptop was just being stupid, so i shut it down, but when i tried to reboot it, it didnt work. I shows the dell screen, and then it comes up with basically a blank screen. I have tried going through dell support and reseating the hard drive, memory etc but nothing has happened. Its not like theres anything that could have obviously caused it.

If anyone has any suggestions or can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
